Firstly, if you have been experiencing this for a long time, seek help. Ask you GP, use EAP programs if they are available to you, or just talk to a friend or family member.
You may be experiencing burnout. You don’t necessarily have to be in a high stress or high-powered job to experience burnout. More and more people are experiencing feelings of anxiety and being overwhelmed because of their own high expectations on themselves, or of perceived societal expectations that you have to be a supermom, or a perfect Dad, an amazing partner, or just to always have your shit together.
Just go easy on yourself. You don’t have to be perfect, and you don’t have to have your shit together. Most people do NOT have their shit together. You are not deficient. You are normal. You are doing OK, and you don’t have to have your shit together. If you are feeling CBF, chances are it’s because you are trying to do way too much, you are trying to live up to your own or other people’s unrealistic ideals or expectations, or you are burnt out. Give yourself a break, treat yourself, talk to someone and get any help that you need.
Other things you may find helpful to combat the stress associated with burn out include
- Bringing Meditation strategies into your daily routine
- Schedule in “unplugged” sessions, where you avoid social media
- Exercise: even just a walk can combat stress and help you manage the feeling of being overwhelmed.
